Accounting Manager (m/f)

For our Client, a company providing financial services, we are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join a specialist fiduciary services environment and take ownership of a portfolio of accounting activities, while leading and developing a team of accounting professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • lead and manage the Accounting team, ensuring work is appropriately prioritised and delivered to a consistently high standard,
  • oversee the preparation and review of complex financial statements in line with UK GAAP and relevant statutory requirements,
  • act as a key point of contact for clients, auditors and other external stakeholders, handling complex queries and ensuring effective communication,
  • work closely with Trust Administration teams to resolve accounting matters and ensure financial statements are completed within agreed deadlines,
  • provide technical guidance and support to the wider accounting team, including advice on complex or non-standard accounting matters,
  • identify opportunities to improve processes, operational efficiency and service delivery, taking an active role in implementing improvements,
  • support the Head of Accounting with strategic initiatives, process improvement projects and other business-critical activities,
  • contribute to the commercial performance of the function by supporting fee proposals, reviewing billing arrangements and ensuring accounting fees are invoiced accurately and on time,
  • monitor team performance, productivity and agreed KPIs, taking appropriate action where required,
  • identify and manage accounting-related risks, escalating issues appropriately and ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures,
  • prepare accurate management information and provide regular updates on performance, workload and key operational matters.

Requirements:

  • solid accounting experience gained within a fiduciary, trust or professional services environment,
  • at least 5 years' experience in people management, with a track record of leading and developing accounting professionals,
  • strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP, with practical experience applying accounting standards to complex situations,
  • good understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to financial reporting,
  • experience preparing and/or reviewing complex financial statements,
  • strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients, auditors and senior stakeholders, including at Board level,
  • a structured and commercially aware approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines,
  • strong judgement and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to make decisions independently and escalate matters when appropriate,
  • a proactive mindset and genuine interest in improving processes and ways of working,
  • high standards of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
